Sunday evening the Cedar Rapids Gazette announced their All-Area football team for the 2017 Iowa High School Football season.

Making the team, comprised of players across all classes on the eastern side of the state, are Bears Jacob Barnhart and Beau Cornwell.

Barnhart, a senior this season for the Bears, has been named to the All-Area team's offensive line. The team captain was the anchor to the Bears' offensive line success, who allowed the team to spring free for 1,651 rushing yards and protected Beau Cornwell to throw for a school record 2,125 yards. Despite being named to only the Class 1A second team by the Iowa Newspaper Association, it's great to see Barnhart getting some recognition in other post-season awards.

Cornwell has made the All-Area team has a place kicker. The junior quarterback and kicker was 8/11 this season on field goals, a single-season school record for both attempts and makes as well as a career record for makes. The 2018 team captain hit multiple times from 40+ yards throughout the season and made a school-record three field goals in a game (against West Burlington-Notre Dame). Cornwell also converted on all but one of his extra piont (28 of 29) attempts during the season.

Congratulations to both Barnhart and Cornwell for their successes on the field and for being named to the All-Area team. Check out the full All-Area team roster over on the Gazette's website.

Other post-season awards given to the Bears include All-District teams and the INA All-State teams.
