Records broken during the 2017 season

The 2017 West Branch Football season was one filled with not only team success but individual success as well. The team finished the season with a 9-1 overall record, an undefeated regular season, a district championship, and a playoff berth. Helping those great accomplishments was the tremendous performances on the field. Let's take a look back at the season by revisiting the records the team and individuals set.

Team Records​

  • Most passing yards in a game: 343 vs. Bellevue on September 22nd. The previous record was 303 in 1996.
  • Most field goal makes in a game: 3 vs. West Burlington/Notre Dame on September 1st.
  • Most passing yards in a season: 2,125
  • Most passing attempts in a season: 264
  • Most passing completions in a season: 169
  • Most field goal attempts in a season: 11
  • Most field goal makes in a season: 8

Individual Records

Beau Cornwell

  • Most passing yards in a game: 343 vs. Bellevue on September 22nd.
  • Most passing completions in a game: 23 vs. Maquoketa Valley on September 15th.
  • Most field goal makes in a game: 3 vs. West Burlington/Notre Dame on September 1st.
  • Most passing yards in a season: 2,125
  • Most passing touchdowns in a season: 20 (tied)
  • Most passing attempts in a season: 264
  • Most passing completions in a season: 169
  • Most field goal attempts in a season: 11
  • Most field goal makes in a season: 8
  • Most field goal makes in a career: 8

Ben Thompson

  • Most receiving yards in a game: 176 vs. Durant on September 29th. The previous record was 168 by Jacob Graves vs. Bellevue in 2017.
  • Most receiving touchdowns in a game: 3 vs. Jesup (tied)
  • Most receiving touchdowns in a season: 11

Jacob "Cheese" Graves

  • Most receptions in a game: 10 vs. Pleasantville on October 27th.
